You can call it what you want, but I call it early access.This is so full of bugs, and lack so much content it's just silly.Looks good though. And sounds are very good.. i think this game got boring a bit quick. that's because there is a lot of copy paste houses and not a lot of different enemies (just 3) that i saw. if you want to play a fun robot game, play horizon zero down.. Generation Zero is a simple game with complex elements stuck on. A lot of people have been critical about the game and all of its bugs and issues those of which I have not encountered in the short time I've been playing. This game has obviously had a lot of work put into it and a lot of people seem to be ignoring it. The game doesn't tell you anything about the robots only that there are robots when you first spawn into the world, the only background you get is delivered through an opening black screen text introduction and everything else is delivered through you having to go out and hunt everything down by looking through various military bunkers and completing quests to figure out whats happened to all the now missing people on the island just off of the Swedish mainland. The games premise isn't new by any means, Big Robot is a developer that released "Sir, You are Being Hunted" and "The Light Keeps Us Safe," both game that take place in a robotic apocalypse where you're stuck ducking and dodging robots by any means possible, both games have their own quirks but "Sir, You are Being Hunted" is the game most like Generation Zero, you can play it as a stealth game, as a shooter or a combination of both, and that might seem good on paper Generation Zero doesn't have your end goal shoved into your face at the beginning. I think Generation Zero is best described as "Vietnam only you're playing the Vietcong and the Americans are Robots" because thats what it feels like, the best this game gets is when you (and up to three other players) are stalking through a forest to avoid some of the nastier robots or while your scouting out a position covered with robots ready to make your assault. Generation Zeros combat is insanely organic, robots have variants, and those robots have variants, for example the basic Runner enemy can be Prototype, Military or Finx but those can also have variants, they can be a drone that charges you and hits you with a concussive blast knocking you down and shooting you with a shotgun or they can be armed with missile launchers and machine guns that tear you up. This section is marked spoiler because combat against robots is kind of the main focus of the game. There are only 6 enemies in game but they have special versions listed above as Prototype, Military and Finx. The Robots also unlock new abilities as you encounter the tougher ones, Finx Runners have rocket launchers and the prototype and military don't, the large but dumb Harvesters spew toxic gas at Finx class as well as the terrifying Tank enemy. and to top it all off you have to learn the weaknesses and new abilities of the enemies as you go, I can't say much on the story because I have yet to finish it but it seems good so far, you have to hunt down answers by hunting down a regional bunker and finding codes to enter and check out what is called a "War Board."because they aren't just thrown at you. Literally they aren't if a quest says go find something it really means go find it. Hunting down houses can be a pain because they don't have any world indicators to show where they are, no addresses on homes or street names so if you want to find a particular house it can be a struggle. Locations aren't the same. If you want to find a bunker or a military base look at your map and start walking.The world building is great. People might complain about floating objects, objects stuck inside other objects and other things but this did little to hinder my exploration and enjoyment of the game, I can't say they broke my immersion because it happened so infrequently. A lot of the buildings especially random houses is copy pasted but I can see why, its better to copy paste a whole load of houses with the same thing inside then to leave the houses inaccessible husks populating a town. The game world is massive and many people have said that lack of vehicles is an issue but if there were vehicles the game would loose a substantial amount of the game would be lost due to just driving to new areas instead of taking the slow quiet walk to locations avoiding robots, that being said vehicles would be nice for traversing areas that have already been traveled because despite there being fast travel and safe houses liberally placed around the map a lot of these safe houses are kinda far from target locations and walking through areas that have been walked a million times over is exceedingly boring.I might add to this review as the game progresses in development continues but for now I'm rushing through making this because the game has been blasted for the bad released. I recommend this game but only if you have friends to get lost in the world in and enjoy the exploration side of games because despite this games lack of content it looks like the developers put lots of time and effort into making an interesting world.. great game but mulity player is laggy a bit. solo feels lonely but if you can find people to play with it makes it more fun. i did 20 hrs of solo and progression was decent pace don't worry if you die explore get all safe house so if you die shorter travel distance. over all good the sounds the visuals are great wish they had vehicles you could operate and maybe a boss fight XD. I really want to like this game, I do.I like the idea of the game, the combat is fun, it looks great, but it's just so frustrating to play.Every single mission is about walking through a really nice looking but also very empty forest, fighting robots (this part is the good one), then collecting either a map or a note from an empty house aaaaannnd guess what? It's time to start it all over again.And the missions are hard to follow too. Sometimes they will ask you to go to a place, but you'll find that is not marked on the map and has this weird, impossible to pronounce name.I had to google them ok? I'm a grown man, don't ask me to run around an empty map looking for clues, only for the reward to be another note.I wish the walking distances were drastically reduced. I wish they would simply add your next destination on the HUD, instead of asking you to do it yourself each time, but only if you happen to know where to go.And I don't believe it's a matter of "getting gud" as some would say. One thing is to make a game challenging, and another is to make it obscure for no reason whatsoever. There is nothing to be gained in this game in not knowing what to do.It's not fun, because the only interactions you can do are looting or shooting.The game should reinforce those points, not spread them appart by miles of an empty map.I'll still keep an eye on it though, and see if it improves.Right now, as is, I can't promise that you'll buy this game and actually have fun with it.. Change the price down to 15\u20ac and sell it as "Early acess", then I could recommend this game.. This game is fun when everything works properly but when there's a game breaking glitch that doesn't let the main story quest proceed, that kinda ruins the game. I've looked at Reddit posts and everything i could find about it and there doesn't seem to be a fix unless you try multiplayer. Also seems to be kinda random and doesn't happen to everyone. I'm giving this game a negative review until the developers fix this glitch cause i cant really play it anymore, and that sucks when spend money to enjoy a game and find a glitch like that 45 minutes into playing, Everything else has been fine though. Side note: Its the glitch where you have to search the Salthamn bunker for clues as to where everyone is, and when you pick up the civil defense contact list, the mission wont proceed and tell you to search the towns houses. I did turn the generator on and i also did not search any houses in town before i searched the bunker as a post said that could glitch the mission out. If anyone can help, id appreciate it. thank. I held off buying this game until I felt satisfied that the devs were taking the feedback seriously and demonstrated that they were (and are) continuing to work on fixes and improvements.Over the past fortnight they have given me the confidence to slap down AUS$60 and download the game....which I did about two hours ago. Since then I have been immersed in the atmosphere of "Generation Zero", at the expense of missing a favourite TV program.This is not a substantial review but is based on what I have experienced after 90 minutes of game-play.My opinions cannot possibly encompass every aspect of the game because I have done no more than touch the tip of the iceberg, so-to-speak; I've learned to use the controls and become accustomed to the UI; I've looted stuff and read notes and whiteboard messages and other bits of information; I have destroyed eight of the dog-type robots and have come to grips with sneaking around vision blocks and through undergrowth.That is about it, so far.But these 90 minutes do allow me to say that the level of negativity surrounding this game *as it stands now* is unwarranted, in my opinion, and I'll tell you why:This is a superb single-player game. It presents being alone very, very well indeed.It is scary, because it is atmospheric and it is atmospheric because the graphics and the sounds are so well presented.Forget playing this as a multiplayer game - play it solo and if you are like me, and like a bit of nervous tension in some of your entertainment, then you will enjoy Generation Zero.It's not perfect, by any means.Here are two aspects which I would like to see addressed:-(a) Doors which are ajar should be able to be closed, not just opened. We should have a choice, not be lumbered with having to open the door fully before it can be closed.(b) We should be able to go prone, not be restricted to just crouching. Prone is good in undergrowth.Minor items but two which could be added to a future update, perhaps?. Yet again it crashed!
